Why Have Median House Prices Risen 45% from 2014 to 2023?

Inflation!

Technology increases productivity, lowering costs to produce goods and services to their marginal cost of production. In a true free market economy, these cost-savings are passed on to you.

In an inflationary-based economy, productivity gains are still passed on to you but inflation artificially inflates prices. Surely there are productivity gains in house construction, car manufacturing, fuel production, growing food; producing laptops, cellphones, and TVs; internet speeds.

Technology increases productivity in ALL of those categories, and more. So why are consumer electronics historically cheaper every year but housing, food, and fuel is more expensive every year? No fucking way a $288,500* house in 2014 should cost $418,500* in 2023 (*median price)

You gonna tell me the construction industry had zero productivity gains due to technology in the past 9 years?

As Jeff Booth, author of The Price of Tomorrow, points out: “Over a long enough time horizon the free market finds a way, and prices continue to fall to the marginal cost of production.”

Based on Jeff Booth’s observation that *prices continue to fall to the marginal cost of production*, how did the median price of a house in the United States rise ~45% from 2014 to 2023 ($288,500 to $418,500)?

Answer: Fed-mandated inflation.

The advantage that consumer electronics costs have over housing construction costs is that Fed-mandated inflation cannot keep up with Moore’s Law.

Moore’s Law outpaces Fed-mandated inflation.
